We already have 14 street hero’s scattered across Loudwater and beyond but we are looking for more volunteers. This is a simple idea and how you run it is really up to you, as you’ll know what works best for your neighbours – but you’ll definitely need to get the word out there before you set up. You could do this by putting a leaflet through your neighbours’ doors, or posting on community social media pages. A street hero hosts a pop up collection point in your driveway or garden. Your collection point could simply be a box in your garden or you might want to put up a gazebo too. Do whatever works for you but it doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. We have signs which are available from the church office, so your neighbours know exactly what to do. You’ll then need to take your collected donations to the One Can Trust warehouse once a week to be distributed to those in need, alternatively if you are unable to get to the warehouse, you can drop them into our One Can Bins at the St Peter’s site.

Tuesdays 10am-11.00am and Thursdays 10.00 am-11.30 am If you can spare a few hours weekly or fortnightly, One Can would love you to join the pick and pack team alongside other Love Loudwater volunteers. The team meets at the One Can store at specific times to ensure numbers are kept to a minimum at any one time, and pack parcels ready to be delivered/collected.

Food donation collectors – at your convenience. One Can need drivers who would like to pop to the supermarkets and collect the generous donations popped in the collection bins by shoppers. The more the bins are emptied, the quicker they fill! You can do this job at your own convenience as part of a team going once every few weeks, or more frequently if that suits you.

Could you form a small team at your local supermarket, on a Saturday morning and encourage shoppers to add a tin or packet to their shopping for your One Can Collection drive that day. If so, please let us know and we will coordinate a date with One Can and the Supermarket.

We have collection bins on-site at St Peter’s. Follow One Can Trust on social media to be kept up to date with the latest shortages and demands on specific food items. If we all play our part we can help end hunger in our communities.
