Fabric and Maintenance Update
At St Peter’s, we are incredibly blessed with a vibrant, growing church and a site that serves many ministries, events, and community needs. With such a dynamic environment, maintaining our buildings and grounds is both a privilege and an ongoing responsibility. We want to share a brief update on the challenges we face in this area and how we're working to overcome them.
Invariably within a site our size, things will get, blocked, leak, broken or simply wear out over time, so the buildings and grounds need be maintained to ensure that we can continue the work God has called us to do at St Peter’s. We have been blessed with wonderful volunteers, who dedicate many hours of their time doing this, however, some of our work also needs be outsourced to professional trades people and when this happens, we can encounter long lead times.
Since Brexit and Covid, there has been a significant shortage of construction labour in the UK and in particular an acute shortage of roofer trades people, which means competition for competitively priced work is high and their availability is low. To frustrate this further because we are blessed with having an extremely busy site, we also need to circumnavigate ministry activities, rental bookings, faculty permission, planning permission and await suitable weather conditions. However, in terms of imminent work I am pleased to confirm that our much-needed roof repair work has now commenced, and we have further work scheduled in the pipeline, so please bear with us.
Your input is valued, so if you want to make any observations, have any concerns, or want to support us in this area, please speak with our facilities manager Andy Saunders (or Richard Rayner) or email our operations manager, Geri – Geri@loudwater.org / church warden, Jon – Jon@loudwater.org.
